Sabor A Perú is a charming Peruvian restaurant nestled in the heart of Covina, CA, offering an inviting escape into the rich and vibrant flavors of Peru. Tucked discreetly in a small plaza at 235 E Rowland St, this cozy spot captures the essence of authentic Peruvian cuisine with an intimate, warmly decorated dining space that reflects traditional Peruvian colors and culture. The welcoming atmosphere is enhanced by the attentive hospitality of the owner, who treats each guest like family, creating an experience that’s as soulful as the food itself.
The menu at Sabor A Perú is a treasure trove of classic Peruvian dishes prepared with care and bold seasoning that lingers delightfully on the palate. Standout favorites include the Lomo Saltado, a succulent stir-fry of tender beef strips sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and crispy fries, served alongside fragrant steamed rice. For seafood lovers, the Ceviche Mixto and Ceviche de Pescado offer refreshingly tangy bites of white fish and shrimp marinated in zesty lime juice, complemented by traditional sides like sweet potatoes and Peruvian toasted corn (cancha).
Breakfast enthusiasts will find delights like the Chipotle Chilaquiles & Scrambled Eggs, Stack Pancake with Strawberries, and the hearty Classic Omelette with Rice and Chilaquiles, perfectly balancing familiar comforts with unique Peruvian twists. Meanwhile, the Tallarin Saltado de Pollo and Arroz Chaufa De Mariscos showcase perfect harmony between Asian stir-fry influences and Peruvian ingredients, with fragrant fried rice and tender chicken or fresh seafood that bursts with flavor.
On the savory side, the Pollo Saltado and Pollo a lo Pobre are not to be missed — juicy grilled chicken topped with a perfectly cooked fried egg, served with home fries and plantains that add a sweet contrast to the savory richness. The dish TacuTacu con Pollo brings together Peruvian refried beans and rice, offering a hearty and satisfying texture combo with grilled chicken breast, ideal for those craving authentic home-style comfort food.
Guests can round out their meal with exquisite desserts like the creamy, subtly sweet Lúcuma Ice Cream or delicate Alfajores—traditional Peruvian cookies filled with luscious dulce de leche, providing the perfect note of sweetness to finish the meal.
What truly sets Sabor A Perú apart is not just the quality and authenticity of its dishes, but the genuine warmth and familiarity in every detail—from the owner’s heartfelt greetings to the consistently well-prepared, flavorful food served promptly. As one satisfied diner shared, their Lomo Saltado and accompanying fried plantains came out “piping hot and deliciously seasoned,” making the restaurant a “hidden gem” well worth returning to, whether dining in or grabbing takeout.
This welcoming spot shines as a rare gem in the San Gabriel Valley, promising a memorable Peruvian dining experience rich with vibrant flavors, comforting aromas, and a heartfelt ambiance that invites you to savor every bite as if you were a cherished guest in a Peruvian home.
Ordered the Lomo Saltado with my dad, mom had the Bistec a lo Pobre. We also got a side of the fried plantains. Everything came out piping hot and everything was deliciously seasoned. Definitely a hidden gem in the area (tucked into the corner of a plaza). Would definitely come again and also consider ordering takeout because it was just that yummy.
Been here a few times already but finally remembered to write a review. The restaurant is located in a small plaza, very discreet from the outside. The interior is quite bright, seems to be of traditional Peruvian color theme and decoration. The owner will make you feel at home. Foods look very appealing and taste wonderful. Love the green sauce!
A memorable dining experience. As soon as we walked in we were seated and greeted by the owner, a sweet Peruvian lady. Our food was made quickly and it was delicious!! It was our first time trying Peruvian food and it did not disappoint! I had the “Tallarin Verde con Carne” and it was exquisite! My family tried the “Tallarin Saltado de Carne”, “Bistec a lo Pobre”, and “Lomo Saltado” and they were equally as tasty! The restaurant was also very clean and offers restrooms. I recommend everyone check it out!
Such good and tasty food!! Highly recommend if your in the area as the flavor in everything you order is very good!
Nothing like authentic Peruvian food with a home style feel. I recently tried this spot and it was fantastic! The authentic Peruvian food is delicious, bursting with rich flavors. The place is cozy and adorned with a good blend of Peruvian decorations. The staff is super friendly and make sure you're well taken care of. If you’re looking for a great Peruvian dining experience, definitely check it out! Oh...did I mention...the Aji Verde is on point too!!
Tried this restaurant for the first time after some Black Friday shopping and it hit the spot. Plenty of parking, lots of tables, spacious and was greeted and served right away. The food is authentic, delicious, fresh and hot. You can tell they cook with love. One of the best if not the best Peruvian restaurant I’ve been to and would highly recommend!
Delicioso! Delicious! Sabor a Perú was amazing! My family and I were doing an errand in the Covina area and I decided to Google some Peruvian food options and came across Sabor a Peru. It was an excellent choice. The food is just sooooo good! Delicious made from scratch & the portions are generous. The pricing is also what I consider good. Every single dish we order was amazing but I’m in absolute love with the Tallarin Verde de Pollo & the Lucuma Ice Cream. But again everything was amazing. Thank you Sabor a Perú.
I stopped in on a quiet Thursday night. The service was great, food was fresh and well seasoned. The price was a little high for the components and location but I enjoyed my meal and wouldn’t hesitate to go back again. The sauce (aji verde) was delicious with a nice kick!
